On flickr, the excellent website where you can find a huge quantity of photos, you can also appreciate the shots by the photographer Yas Yamamoto (born in Tokyo in 1970). In 2005 Yamamoto spent some months in Florence, where he attended our Italian language classes and at the same time the Arese Visconti photo studio, run by Francesco Arese Visconti, a B/W specialist.
Japanese people are very familiar with cameras, this is a matter of fact, not just a stereotype. However, Yas Yamamoto is not just an amateur but a professional of the shot, the genuine shot taken with a reflex camera and with a B/W film. A purist.
The town is undoubtedly Yas Yamamoto’s favourite space for his pictures: a never ordinary town which he manages to catch in its essential and interacting details. Yamamoto’s eyes are used to observe the world beyond obviousness, his B/W are clean and sharp. The shots are always perfectly studied and created without any hesitation. The town and the people are always mixing in a detail or they are interwoven in the architectural geometries of the objects. The picture is never descriptive, but it has always a story to tell, sometimes poetic, sometimes ironic.

Su flickr, l’ottimo sito dove è possibile accedere ad una quantità enorme di immagini, potete trovare le fotografie di Yas Yamamoto, classe 1970, ex-studente di lingua italiana all’Accademia del Giglio nel 2005 e allievo del fotografo fiorentino Francesco Arese Visconti specialista del B/N. Si sa, non è una semplice leggenda, che i giapponesi con le macchine fotografiche ci sanno fare. Yas Yamamoto però non è un semplice amatore, ma un professionista dello scatto, il vero scatto della macchina reflex con rullino in bianco e nero. Un purista quindi.
La città è lo spazio preferito degli scatti di Yamamoto, una città mai banale, colta nei particolari che la compongono da un occhio abituato a guardare oltre l’evidenza. I bianchi e neri di Yas sono netti, puliti: la foto è studiata, sicura, non ci sono incertezze. La città e l’essere umano si fondono quasi sempre in un particolare o s’interlacciano nelle geometrie dell’architettura o nelle linee delle cose. La foto non è mai descrittiva, ha sempre una storia da raccontare, a volte poetica, a volte ironica.
