For the 60th Anniversary of Polaroid, the association Uber is promoting an international festival, Istantanea, a competition for those photographers who are keeping the fascination for this unique and singular means of capturing reality. Used by Andy Warhol, loved by Helmut Newton, Nobuyoshi Araki and many others, Instant Photography was the symbol of an era. With instant emulsion, photography become an expressive tool for pop artists and an immediate means to capture any aspect of everyday life. This festival is also open to those artists who produce their own instant emulsions and cameras.
The Photographic Competition has no limitations on subject matter and is open to all photographers of any age and nationality. The Festival will be held in Catania, Sicily, and the prize consists in a digital camera (yes, it sounds a bit strange but…) of the value of euro 1000. Each competitor can send a maximum number of four instantaneous photographs. The deadline for sending all the material is December 31st 2007. For more information and participation form, visit the Istantaneafestival site. From the MySpace page of the Festival it’s possible to contact a lot of instantaneous photographers. On Youtube there is a channel with many videos on the subject.
